I
Was Found!
For the Son of Man came
to seek and to save what was lost! Luke 19:10 (NIV)
Have you ever been lost? It can be a frightening experience.
I will never forget being a young kindergartner
and very lost. When I was a child society was very different from today. It was not unusual for children to walk to
and from school. My mother had carefully
taught me the way to walk the block and a half from our house to the
school. We had made the trip many
times. I always walked directly to
school and entered the south door. It
was easy.
One day when it was time to return home,
I went out the north door. The ground
was covered with snow. It had snowed all
morning, and nothing looked the same. I
walked in what I thought was the right direction, but I did not see my house. I
stopped a man, gave him my address and asked if he could point the way. He pointed out a truck that was traveling
through town, but I did not see my house.
I continued to walk and walk and walk.
I walked until my legs could not walk
any further. I was now at least eight
blocks from school and seven blocks from home.
I was as at the last street in town, and I still had not found my house. I sat down on a tree stump to rest and to
cry. I wondered if I would ever find my
way home again. It seemed hopeless.
I had barely begun to cry again when a
nice lady came out of her house and asked me if I was lost. I told her I was. She took me inside to warm up and asked if I
knew my phone number. I told her it was
130X. She made me hot cocoa and gave me
cookies. I had just begun the nice snack
when there was a knock at the door. The
nice lady opened the door. I could not
believe my eyes, because my father was standing there. He thanked the lady,
took me in his arms, kissed me, and took me home.
As a young child, I did not fully
comprehend how all these events took place.
I had not seen the lady make the phone call. The one thing I did understand is that I had
been lost, but now I was found! I was
going home! Like my father who found his
little girl so many years ago, our heavenly Father will find us wherever we may
be.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You that even when I
feel lost in the midst of my sins, You are always with me. I thank You for hearing my cries and Your
promise to take me home to be with You forever in heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
