There is Healing and then there is Healing

During my parish ministry I would often be blessed by the very person I was trying to comfort. One such person was a dear lady named Grace.  She was in her 80s, and she had a grown daughter with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).  During one of my visits with Grace and her daughter in the nursing home, Grace made this comment. “Pastor Mike, I pray for healing for my daughter every day, but God has shown me that there is healing and then there is healing.”

Grace was acknowledging the fact that her daughter may not be healed physically, yet she knew that her daughter was at peace, having been healed of the resentment and anger over having MS, and thanking God for her spiritual healing. For that healing Grace thanked the Lord every day.

Perhaps you are in need to God’s spiritual healing power!  If so, where do you turn? The Bible says in Psalm 107:20 (ESV) that God sent out his word and healed them. What a great message of comfort this is to us!  How does God work healing in us?  While reading your Bible, you know that God the Father uses his written word to point us to his revealed Word, his Son Jesus Christ. In John 1:1 the Bible calls Jesus, the Word who became flesh. Therefore, the bottom line is that Jesus, the greatest Healer, came to earth for our healing.  His word throughout the Bible is about his works of physical and spiritual healing.

In 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (ESV) Paul talks about God’s word which is at work in you who believe, so that in times when you are hurting whether physically, emotionally or spiritually, remember to use God’s word in the Bible! Not only is the Bible without error, not only is it historically accurate, we rejoice that the word in the Bible works!  It is at work in you every time you read it!

Grace was right! God’s Word has healed her daughter, herself, you and me!  Grace saw that healing each time she read the Bible to her daughter.  In the very act of reading God’s word you can follow the practice of Grace when something is bothering you, you can pick up God’s word and feel his touch and healing. I encourage you to open your Bible, any one of the various revisions that are readily available, and give Jesus the opportunity to work his healing in you.

Blessings to you as you increase your practice of reading God’s word and letting him fill your life with his very special and eternal healing!
